Imagine – a National Historic Site AND a Provincial Historic Resource in our very own backyard! The Lac La Biche Mission Historical Society takes great pride in safeguarding the Mission just west of Lac La Biche. Jennifer Mueller is Site administrator and tells us the main goal of the Mission Historical Society is to “preserve and enhance the Lac La Biche Mission historical site.” Even more important she says, are telling the stories about the people who lived there, because that’s the history of Lac La Biche and area.
You can spend an entire day at the Lac La Biche Mission Historical Site. You can go with an expert guide or take a self-guided tour at your own pace. If you are looking for an event, the Mission is the place to be! See the fur trader re-enactment, immerse yourself in Canada Day celebrations, check out the heritage festival, culture days, and the family Christmas celebration. When history comes alive at the Mission it brings the community together with fun activities for everyone!
To preserve the past, Jennifer and the board to directors look to the future. New projects include: an agricultural garage exhibit, school house, laundry house, and chicken coop.
