Located approximately 220 km northeast of Edmonton, the Hamlet of Lac La Biche is the regional centre for business, health care facilities, education and government services. The population is 3,000 within the former town boundaries, but serves a regional trading area of 16,500.

One of the unique features of the Lac La Biche Region is the diversity of cultures that have settled the area including French, White Russian, Italian, Lebanese, Aboriginal, and Ukrainian.
